\u00a0Slack probably felt threatened when\u00a0plans to unleash Microsoft Teams to the world was under way. It proved this when it decided that the best way to lash out was by buying\u00a0a full New York Times page ad and writing an open letter to Microsoft. In my opinion, slack showed it’s distress by trying to tell Microsoft that they are better. The letter started with a warm embrace laced with sarcasm.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\u201cDear Microsoft,<\/em>
\nWow. Big news! Congratulations on today\u2019s announcements. We\u2019re genuinely excited to have some competition.<\/em>
\nWe realized a few years ago that the value of switching to Slack was so obvious and the advantages so overwhelming that every business would be using Slack, or \u201csomething just like it,\u201d within the decade. It\u2019s validating to see you\u2019ve come around to the same way of thinking. And even though\u200a\u2014\u200abeing honest here\u200a\u2014\u200ait\u2019s a little scary, we know it will bring a better future forward faster.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

\n

 <\/p>\n

Slack has over 4 million daily active users of which include top enterprises as its customers thus I can’t help but wonder why it had to make a big deal out of it. Like I say, ”if you are better, prove it, don’t sweat it.”<\/p>\n

From a certain angle, I get Slacks’ fear; \u00a0Microsoft Teams is Microsoft’s\u00a0new product targeted at enterprises which makes it\u00a0a direct competitor to Slack.<\/p>\n

According to Slack, Microsoft cannot create a revolution by simply copying their features but requires something much deeper. Slack says, that the\u00a0\u00a0\u2018tiny details\u2019 are what make the big difference and they have spent a lot of time figuring out what customers really want.
\nSlack also takes a\u00a0direct jab at how Microsoft isn\u2019t exactly so open;<\/p>\n

\u201cWe know that playing nice with others isn\u2019t exactly your MO, but if you can\u2019t offer people an open platform that brings everything together into one place and makes their lives dramatically simpler, it\u2019s just not going to work.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Finally Slack enforces one last point;\u00a0\u201cOne final point: Slack is here to stay.\u201d<\/em> \u00a0Slack\u2019s letter ends saying Microsoft will be a worthy competitor and they will be ready as well.<\/p>\n
